How to Use VPS for Forex Trading
What is a VPS and Why Use It?
A VPS is a remote server that acts like a dedicated computer in the cloud. For forex traders in Portugal, it means your trading platform runs continuously, executing trades based on your indicators or Expert Advisors (EAs). This is essential for scalping, news trading, or running automated strategies overnight.
How to Set Up a VPS for Forex Trading in Portugal
First, choose a VPS provider that offers low latency to your broker's servers. Look for providers with data centers in Europe (e.g., Amsterdam, Frankfurt) to minimize ping. Recommended specs: at least 2GB RAM, 20GB SSD, and Windows Server 2019 or 2022. Many forex brokers, including those regulated by the local financial authority, offer free VPS if you trade a minimum volume (e.g., 5 lots per month). If not, paid options like AWS, DigitalOcean, or specialized forex VPS providers cost €10-€30 per month.
Installing Your Trading Platform on VPS
After purchasing the VPS, you'll receive login credentials (IP, username, password). Use Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) on your Windows computer to connect. Once logged in, download and install your broker's MT4 or MT5 platform. Log in with your trading account credentials. Ensure the platform is set to 'Auto-Trading' enabled. For EAs, attach them to charts and check they are running. Test with a demo account first.
Maintaining Your VPS
Keep your VPS updated with Windows security patches. Avoid installing unnecessary software that could slow it down. Use a strong password and enable two-factor authentication if available. Monitor your VPS performance via the provider's dashboard. If your broker offers a free VPS, ensure you maintain the required trading volume to keep it active.
