Understanding Forex Deposits for Portugal Traders
When you open a live trading account, you must fund it before you can place any trades. The deposit process is the first real step into the market. For Portugal traders, the most reliable methods are Bank Transfer (SEPA), Skrill (e-wallet), and USDT (crypto stablecoin). Each has different speeds, fees, and limits.
Bank Transfer (SEPA)
Bank transfers are the most traditional method. Portuguese traders can use SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) to send euros directly from their bank account to the broker. Most regulated brokers accept SEPA transfers. The funds are usually credited within 1-3 business days. Fees are minimal (often €0-€5) depending on your bank. You will need to provide the broker's IBAN and BIC. This method is ideal for larger deposits (over €500) because it is secure and traceable.
Skrill
Skrill is a popular e-wallet in Portugal. You can fund your Skrill account via credit card or bank transfer, then instantly transfer to the broker. Skrill deposits are usually fee-free for the trader (the broker may charge a small fee). Processing time is instant. Skrill is best for medium deposits (€100-€2,000) and offers an extra layer of privacy because you do not share your bank details with the broker.
USDT (Tether)
USDT is a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar. Portuguese traders can buy USDT on a crypto exchange (like Binance or Kraken) and send it to the broker's USDT wallet address. This method is fast (minutes) and has low fees (often under $1). However, it is not supported by all regulated brokers. USDT is ideal for traders who want to avoid bank delays and prefer cryptocurrency. Always double-check the wallet address to avoid loss.
Currency Conversion
Your broker account is set to USD. When you deposit euros via Bank Transfer or Skrill, the broker will convert your euros to USD at their exchange rate. This conversion may include a markup of 1-3%. To avoid conversion fees, consider depositing USDT, which is already in USD equivalent.
