How to Use MetaTrader 5 (MT5)
What is MetaTrader 5 (MT5)?
MetaTrader 5 is an advanced multi-asset trading platform developed by MetaQuotes. It offers charting tools, technical indicators, automated trading via Expert Advisors (EAs), and supports multiple order types. For Indian traders, MT5 is available on desktop (Windows/Mac), web, and mobile (Android/iOS).
Key Features for Indian Traders
MT5 provides 38+ built-in indicators, 21 timeframes, and a built-in economic calendar. Indian traders can use it for forex pairs (USD/INR, EUR/INR), indices (NIFTY 50), and commodities (gold, silver). The platform supports hedging, which is useful for managing risk in volatile Indian markets.
How to Download MT5 in India
Visit your broker’s website to download MT5. Many SEBI-registered brokers offer custom MT5 builds. You can also download the platform from the official MetaQuotes site, but you need a broker login to trade. For mobile, search ‘MetaTrader 5’ on Google Play or App Store.
Setting Up Your MT5 Account
After installation, open MT5 and select ‘Open an account’. Choose your broker from the list or enter server details provided by your broker. Enter your login ID and password. Set account currency to INR if available. Once logged in, you’ll see market watch, charts, and trade terminal.
Placing Your First Trade
Select a symbol (e.g., USD/INR) from Market Watch. Drag it onto a chart. Right-click on the chart and select ‘Trading’ > ‘New Order’. Set volume (lot size), stop loss, take profit, and order type (market/pending). Click ‘Sell’ or ‘Buy’. Monitor your trade in the Terminal tab.
