How to Use MetaTrader 4 (MT4)
What is MetaTrader 4 (MT4)?
MT4 is a trading platform developed by MetaQuotes Software. It offers advanced charting tools, multiple timeframes, technical indicators, and automated trading via Expert Advisors (EAs). Malaysian traders prefer MT4 for its reliability and ease of use.
Downloading MT4 in Malaysia
You can download MT4 from your broker's website or the official MetaQuotes site. For mobile trading, get the app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Ensure your broker is SC Malaysia regulated before downloading.
Logging into MT4
After installation, click 'File' > 'Login to Trade Account'. Enter your broker-provided login ID, password, and server name. If you don't have these, contact your broker's support team.
Understanding the MT4 Interface
The platform has a Market Watch window showing live prices, a Navigator panel for indicators and EAs, a chart area for analysis, and a Terminal panel for orders and account history. Customize layouts by dragging panels.
Placing a Trade in Malaysia
Right-click on a symbol in Market Watch and select 'New Order'. Set volume, stop loss, and take profit. For Islamic accounts, ensure swap-free status is enabled. Confirm the trade with 'Sell' or 'Buy'.
Using Indicators and Chart Tools
Drag indicators from Navigator to charts. Popular ones include Moving Averages, RSI, and MACD. Malaysian traders often combine multiple indicators for better analysis. You can also draw trend lines and Fibonacci retracements.
Automated Trading with EAs
EAs allow automated trading based on preset rules. To attach an EA, drag it from Navigator onto a chart. Ensure the EA is compatible with your broker's server. Backtest EAs using Strategy Tester before live use.
