How to Open a Forex Account
Understanding the Serbian Forex Landscape
Forex trading in Serbia is legal and growing in popularity. The local financial authority, the Securities Commission of the Republic of Serbia (Komisija za hartije od vrednosti), oversees financial markets, but most retail traders use brokers regulated in the European Union (e.g., CySEC, FCA) because they offer better leverage, more currency pairs, and lower minimum deposits. Serbian traders typically trade major pairs like EUR/USD, GBP/USD, and USD/CHF, with the Serbian dinar (RSD) rarely traded directly.
Step 1: Choose a Regulated Broker
Your broker must be regulated by a reputable authority. For Serbia, look for brokers licensed by CySEC (EU), FCA (UK), or the local Securities Commission. Avoid unregulated offshore brokers—they are not covered by any investor protection scheme. Also, ensure the broker accepts Serbian residents and offers Bank Transfer, Skrill, and USDT as deposit methods.
Step 2: Prepare Your Documents
Serbian traders need a valid Serbian passport or national ID (lična karta), proof of residence (utility bill or bank statement under 3 months old), and sometimes a selfie or video call for verification. If you are registering as a business, you will also need your company registration certificate and PIB (tax ID).
Step 3: Complete the Online Registration
Visit the broker's website and click 'Open Account'. Fill in your personal details—full name, date of birth, address, email, and phone number. Choose your account currency as USD (most brokers default to USD for Serbian traders). Agree to the terms and conditions, and submit the form.
Step 4: Verify Your Identity (KYC)
Upload clear copies of your ID and proof of residence. Some brokers use automated systems that verify within minutes; others may take 1-2 business days. Make sure the name on your ID matches the name on your proof of residence exactly. If you use a utility bill, ensure it is not older than 3 months.
Step 5: Fund Your Account
Log in to your new account and go to the deposit section. Select your preferred method: Bank Transfer (1-3 business days, low fees for large amounts), Skrill (instant, low fees), or USDT (instant, no bank involvement, but check network fees). The minimum deposit is typically $50-$100. Always deposit in USD to avoid conversion fees.
Step 6: Download the Trading Platform
Most brokers offer MT4, MT5, or a web trader. Download the platform on your computer or mobile (iOS/Android). Log in with the credentials provided by the broker. You are now ready to start trading. Practice with a demo account first if you are new.
