Russian retail traders are operating in a unique regulatory and financial environment. The CBR does not recognise offshore brokers, local forex licences have become almost impossible to maintain, and the 2022โ2025 capital restrictions pushed many experienced traders toward offshore execution. In this context, Interactive Brokers and Pepperstone are two of the most common escape routes. Interactive Brokers scores 3.3/5 here: it offers a broader range of global assets but has tightened access for Russian clients and keeps a clunky desktop-centric experience. Pepperstone scores 4.9/5 because it was built for high-frequency FX and CFD traders, has transparent RAW pricing and supports flexible deposit flows via USDT, bank transfers and Qiwi. For a Russia-based trader, the practical question is not which broker has more exchange listings, but which one can be funded easily in RUB, offers lower all-in spreads on EURUSD and USDJPY, and accommodates the CBR's restrictive capital-account reality. This page compares both brokers across trading costs, platforms, regulation, payments, Islamic accounts, support and execution, with a clear verdict for Russian traders in 2026.

Russian traders pay a high hidden cost when brokers add wide spreads to RUB conversions or charge inactivity fees. On Pepperstone's Razor account, EURUSD spreads start from 0.0 pips and you pay a fixed $3.50 commission per side per lot, making total cost around 0.5โ0.7 pips on a 1-lot trade. Interactive Brokers uses a tiered fee plus market spread, which looks cheap on large orders but costs more on the 1โ10 lot sizes popular with Russian retail traders. The difference matters on volume: a trader doing 30 lots per week can save $90โ150 per month on Pepperstone versus IBKR. Interactive Brokers also charges a $20 monthly activity fee unless you generate at least $20 in commissions. Pepperstone has no inactivity fee and no hidden markup on RUB-related funding.

Both brokers execute orders well, but their strengths differ for Russia. Pepperstone's STP and ECN model routes directly to top liquidity providers, and its Equinix LD5 and NY4 servers keep latency around 52 ms from Moscow on major pairs. There are no requotes on Razor accounts, and scalping, hedging and news trading are allowed. Interactive Brokers uses IB SmartRouting to split orders across exchanges and dark pools, which is excellent for US equities and options, but for spot FX it adds complexity and occasional slippage. For Russian high-frequency traders, Pepperstone is smoother and more transparent.
