What is a Micro Lot in Forex
What Exactly is a Micro Lot?
A micro lot is a standard forex contract size equal to 1,000 units of the base currency. For example, if you trade EUR/USD, one micro lot means you are buying or selling 1,000 euros. This is 1/10th of a mini lot (10,000 units) and 1/100th of a standard lot (100,000 units). The key benefit is that each pip movement is worth only $0.10 for most major currency pairs, making it very affordable for small accounts.
How Micro Lots Work for Ghana Traders
When you trade a micro lot, the profit or loss per pip is small. For instance, if you trade GBP/USD and the price moves 50 pips in your favor, you earn $5.00 (50 pips x $0.10). In GHS terms, at an exchange rate of 15 GHS/USD, that is about 75 GHS. This allows you to trade with low capital, such as 500 GHS deposited via MTN MoMo, and still see meaningful results.
Why Micro Lots Matter for Ghana Traders
Ghana has a growing forex community, but many traders start with limited capital. Micro lots enable you to practice risk management, test strategies, and build confidence without risking large sums. They are ideal for part-time traders who use mobile money platforms like MTN MoMo for deposits and withdrawals. Additionally, micro lots help you comply with SEC Ghana guidelines by encouraging responsible trading with small positions.
