What is Lot Size in Forex
What Exactly is a Lot?
A lot is a standardized unit of measurement in forex trading. The standard lot equals 100,000 units of the base currency. However, modern brokers offer smaller lot sizes to accommodate retail traders. For Uzbekistan traders, the most common lot sizes are:
- Standard lot: 100,000 units – requires significant capital or high leverage
- Mini lot: 10,000 units – good for intermediate traders
- Micro lot: 1,000 units – ideal for beginners in Uzbekistan
- Nano lot: 100 units – for very small accounts or testing strategies
How Lot Size Affects Pip Value
A pip is the smallest price movement in forex. For USD pairs, one pip on a standard lot equals $10, on a mini lot $1, and on a micro lot $0.10. For example, if you trade EUR/USD with a standard lot and it moves 50 pips, you gain or lose $500. With a micro lot, the same move is only $5. This shows why choosing the right lot size is vital for risk management.
Practical Example for Uzbekistan Traders
Suppose you deposit $500 via Skrill into your trading account. You decide to trade USD/JPY with a micro lot (0.01 lot). Your pip value is approximately $0.10. If you set a stop loss of 30 pips, your maximum risk per trade is $3, which is 0.6% of your account. This is conservative and allows you to survive losing streaks.
