What is Lot Size in Forex
What Exactly is a Lot in Forex?
A lot is a standardized unit of trade size in forex. The most common lot sizes are:
- Standard Lot: 100,000 units of the base currency (e.g., $100,000)
- Mini Lot: 10,000 units ($10,000)
- Micro Lot: 1,000 units ($1,000)
- Nano Lot: 100 units ($100) – less common but available with some brokers
How Lot Size Affects Pip Value
In forex, price movements are measured in pips. The value of one pip depends on your lot size. For example, if you trade EUR/USD with a standard lot, one pip is worth $10. With a mini lot, one pip is $1, and with a micro lot, one pip is $0.10. For Tajikistan traders trading in USD, this means a standard lot trade could gain or lose $10 per pip, while a micro lot trade only $0.10 per pip.
Lot Size and Margin
Margin is the amount you need to open a trade. With 1:100 leverage, a standard lot on EUR/USD requires $1,000 margin. A micro lot requires only $10 margin. For Tajikistan traders with limited capital, micro lots are more accessible. Using USDT deposits, you can easily fund a micro lot account with $50–$100.
Choosing the Right Lot Size for Tajikistan Traders
Your lot size should match your account balance and risk tolerance. A common rule is not to risk more than 1–2% of your account per trade. For a $500 account, that means risking $5–$10 per trade. If you trade a micro lot (0.01 lot), a 50-pip stop loss would lose $5, which fits this rule. Standard lots would be too risky for small accounts.
