What is Lot Size in Forex
What Exactly is a Lot in Forex?
A lot is a standardized unit of measurement for forex trades. It represents the amount of base currency you are buying or selling. The most common lot sizes are: standard lot (100,000 units), mini lot (10,000 units), micro lot (1,000 units), and nano lot (100 units). For Azerbaijan traders using USD accounts, each lot size has a specific pip value. For example, a standard lot on EUR/USD equals $10 per pip, a mini lot equals $1 per pip, and a micro lot equals $0.10 per pip.
How Lot Size Affects Your Trading in Azerbaijan
Choosing the right lot size is directly linked to your account balance and risk tolerance. If you deposit $500 via Skrill, trading a standard lot would risk $10 per pip — a 50-pip loss would wipe out your entire account. With a micro lot, the same 50-pip loss is only $5. Many Azerbaijan retail traders start with micro or mini lots to preserve capital while learning. Your broker’s leverage also interacts with lot size: higher leverage allows you to control larger lot sizes with less margin, but it amplifies losses.
Practical Example for Azerbaijan Traders
Imagine you open a USD account with $1,000, deposited via Bank Transfer. You want to trade USD/TRY. If you buy one mini lot (10,000 units) with 1:30 leverage, your margin requirement is about $333. Each pip move is worth $1. If the price moves 100 pips in your favor, you gain $100 (10% of your account). But if it moves against you by 100 pips, you lose $100. This shows why lot size must match your account size and risk appetite.
