What is a Forex Broker
What Exactly Does a Forex Broker Do?
A forex broker connects you to the interbank market, allowing you to buy and sell currency pairs. They provide a trading platform (like MetaTrader 4 or 5), leverage, and tools for analysis. For example, if you believe the EUR/USD will rise, you buy euros using USD through the broker. The broker executes your trade instantly and charges a spread (the difference between buy and sell price) or a commission.
Types of Forex Brokers
There are two main types: Dealing Desk (DD) and No Dealing Desk (NDD). DD brokers create their own market and may trade against you, while NDD brokers pass your orders directly to liquidity providers. For Albania traders, NDD brokers are generally more transparent and offer better pricing. Most reputable brokers today are NDD or ECN (Electronic Communication Network) brokers.
Leverage and Margin in Albania
Leverage allows you to control a large position with a small deposit. For example, with 1:100 leverage, a $100 deposit controls $10,000 worth of currency. While leverage magnifies profits, it also increases risk. Albanian traders should use leverage cautiously, especially when starting. Many brokers offer leverage up to 1:500, but lower leverage (1:30 or 1:50) is safer for beginners.
How Brokers Make Money
Brokers earn through spreads, commissions, swaps (overnight interest), and sometimes inactivity fees. A typical spread for EUR/USD is 0.1–2 pips depending on the account type. Albania traders should compare spreads and commissions to find cost-effective brokers. Some brokers offer zero-commission accounts with wider spreads, while others charge a fixed commission per lot.
