What is a Pip in Forex
A pip represents the fourth decimal place in most currency pairs. For example, if EUR/USD moves from 1.1000 to 1.1001, that is a 1-pip increase. For USD/JPY, a move from 110.00 to 110.01 is a 1-pip increase. The pip value depends on three factors: the currency pair, the lot size, and the exchange rate. For standard lots (100,000 units), 1 pip in EUR/USD equals $10. For mini lots (10,000 units), it equals $1. For micro lots (1,000 units), it equals $0.10. Jordan traders often start with micro or mini lots to keep risk manageable. To calculate pip value in USD for any pair, use this formula: pip value = (one pip / exchange rate) × lot size. For example, for USD/CAD at 1.2500, 1 pip = (0.0001 / 1.2500) × 100,000 = $8.00. For USD/JPY at 110.00, 1 pip = (0.01 / 110.00) × 100,000 = $9.09. Most trading platforms like MetaTrader 4 or 5 show pip values automatically. When trading from Jordan, remember that your broker may display pip values in USD, but your actual account currency could be USD if you deposited via USDT or Skrill. Always check the pip value before entering a trade to avoid surprises.
