How to Verify a Forex Broker Regulation
Why Regulation Verification Matters for Tajikistan Traders
Forex trading is popular in Tajikistan, but the market is not heavily regulated locally. Many brokers accept traders from Tajikistan but are based offshore. Verifying regulation ensures your broker follows strict rules on client fund segregation, transparency, and dispute resolution. Without verification, you risk losing your deposit to unlicensed operators.
Step 1: Find the Broker’s License Number
Every regulated broker displays its license number and regulator name in the footer of its website or on the 'About Us' page. For Tajikistan traders, look for licenses from the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK, the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), or the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). Write down the license number exactly as shown.
Step 2: Check the Regulator’s Official Database
Visit the official website of the regulator. For NBT, go to nbt.tj and search for 'licensed forex brokers' or 'financial services register.' For international regulators like the FCA, use their register search tool. Enter the license number and confirm the broker’s legal name matches. If the number is not found or the name differs, the broker may be using a fake license.
Step 3: Verify the Broker’s Physical Address and Contact
Legitimate brokers provide a verifiable physical address and phone number. For Tajikistan traders, check if the address matches the regulator’s records. Be cautious of brokers that only list a PO Box or an address in a jurisdiction known for lax regulation, such as the Seychelles or Vanuatu.
Step 4: Confirm Client Fund Protection
Regulated brokers must keep client funds in segregated accounts. Ask the broker for proof of segregation and check if they are covered by a compensation scheme, like the FSCS in the UK. For Tajikistan traders, this is vital because local laws may not guarantee recovery if the broker goes bankrupt.
