How to Verify a Forex Broker Regulation
Why Regulation Verification Matters for Mongolian Traders
Forex regulation ensures that brokers operate under strict financial standards, segregate client funds, and submit to regular audits. For Mongolian traders, who often face unregulated brokers promising high returns, verifying regulation is the first line of defense against scams. Without regulation, you have no guarantee your money is safe.
Step 1: Identify the Broker's Regulator
Every regulated broker displays their license number and regulatory body prominently on their website footer or 'About Us' page. Common regulators include the FCA (UK), CySEC (Cyprus), ASIC (Australia), and FSCA (South Africa). If the broker claims to be regulated by the Mongolian Financial Regulatory Commission (FRC), be cautious — the FRC does not regulate forex brokers directly.
Step 2: Visit the Regulator's Official Website
Go to the regulator's official website. For example, if the broker says they are FCA-regulated, visit the FCA's Financial Services Register. Enter the broker's name or license number in the search bar. The register will show the broker's current status, permissions, and any warnings. If the broker is not listed, they are not regulated.
Step 3: Check for Warnings and Complaints
Regulators often issue warnings against unauthorized firms. Search for the broker's name plus 'warning' or 'scam' on the regulator's site. Also check independent forums and CompareBroker.io for user reports. In Mongolia, common scams involve brokers using fake regulatory logos — always cross-check on the regulator's official site.
Step 4: Verify Client Fund Protection
Regulated brokers must segregate client funds in separate bank accounts. Ask the broker for confirmation of segregated accounts. Some regulators also offer compensation schemes (e.g., FCA's FSCS covers up to £85,000). Mongolian traders should prioritize brokers that offer negative balance protection and compensation coverage.
