How to Verify a Forex Broker Regulation
Understanding Forex Broker Regulation
Regulation means a broker is licensed and monitored by a financial authority that enforces rules to protect traders. For Iraqi traders, since the Central Bank of Iraq does not issue forex licenses, you must rely on international regulators. The most trusted are the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK, the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), and the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA).
Step 1: Find the Broker's License Number
Every regulated broker displays its license number on its website, usually in the footer. For example, a broker regulated by CySEC might show 'License No. 123/12'. Write down this number.
Step 2: Visit the Official Regulator Website
Go directly to the regulator's official website. Do not click links from the broker's site. For CySEC, go to cysec.gov.cy. For FCA, go to fca.org.uk. For DFSA, go to dfsa.ae.
Step 3: Use the Regulator's Search Tool
Each regulator has a 'Register' or 'Search' tool. Enter the license number or broker name. The result should show the broker's legal name, address, and license status (e.g., 'Authorised' or 'Regulated').
Step 4: Check the License Details
Verify the broker is allowed to offer forex trading and accept clients from Iraq. Some licenses restrict services to certain countries. Also check if the broker is on any warning lists.
Step 5: Cross-Check with Local Payment Methods
If the broker accepts deposits via Bank Transfer, Skrill, or USDT (Tether), ensure that the payment processor is also regulated. For example, USDT transactions should only be sent to the broker's verified wallet address, not a personal account.
