How to Use VPS for Forex Trading
What Is a VPS and Why Brunei Traders Need It
A VPS is a virtual computer hosted in a data centre that runs your trading platform continuously. For Brunei retail forex traders, this is crucial if you use Expert Advisors (EAs) or trade during volatile market hours when you are asleep or at work. Without a VPS, your trades might stop if your home internet goes down or your laptop shuts down.
Step 1: Choose a VPS Provider with Low Latency
Select a provider with servers in Singapore or Hong Kong — these locations offer the fastest connection to most forex brokers serving Brunei. Recommended providers include ForexVPS, BeeksFX, and Cloudways. Ensure they accept payments via Bank Transfer (local Brunei banks), Skrill, or USDT (Tether) for convenience.
Step 2: Select a Plan Suitable for Forex
For running MT4 or MT5, choose a plan with at least 2GB RAM, 2 CPU cores, and a 60GB SSD. Avoid cheap shared hosting that may lag during news events. Most forex VPS plans cost between $10 and $30 per month. In Brunei dollars, that is roughly BND 13 to BND 40.
Step 3: Install Windows and Your Trading Platform
After purchasing, you will receive login credentials. Connect via Remote Desktop (RDP) from your Brunei computer. Install Windows Server (usually provided), then download your broker’s MT4/MT5 installer. Log in with your trading account and attach your EAs.
Step 4: Configure for 24/7 Operation
Set the platform to auto-start when the VPS boots. Disable sleep mode and ensure your EA is running. Test by placing a demo trade. Many brokers also offer free VPS if you deposit over a certain amount (e.g., $5,000), so check with your broker first.
