How to Use TradingView for Forex
What is TradingView and Why Use It for Forex in Malta?
TradingView is a cloud-based charting and social trading platform used by millions worldwide, including many Maltese retail forex traders. It offers real-time data, customisable charts, and a community where traders share ideas. For Maltese traders, TradingView provides access to major forex pairs like EUR/USD, GBP/USD, and USD/JPY with low latency. Unlike traditional platforms like MT4, TradingView runs in a browser and requires no installation, making it ideal for traders on the go in Malta.
Step 1: Choose an MFSA-Regulated Broker
Before using TradingView, you must open an account with a broker that supports TradingView integration. In Malta, the local financial authority is the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA). Always choose an MFSA-regulated broker for deposit protection and dispute resolution. Popular brokers for Maltese traders include eToro, XTB, and Pepperstone, all of which allow TradingView connection. Ensure the broker offers USD as base currency to match your account currency.
Step 2: Open a Live or Demo Account
Visit your chosen broker's website and complete registration. For Maltese residents, you'll need your Maltese ID card or passport, proof of address (utility bill or bank statement), and sometimes a selfie for verification. Select 'USD' as account currency to avoid conversion fees when depositing with Skrill or USDT. Most brokers offer a demo account with virtual funds – use this to practise on TradingView before going live.
Step 3: Fund Your Account
Deposit funds using one of Malta's preferred methods: Bank Transfer (free but takes 1-3 business days), Skrill (instant, low fees), or USDT (cryptocurrency stablecoin, fast and low-cost). For Bank Transfer, use your Maltese bank account. Skrill is popular among Maltese traders for its speed. USDT deposits are processed via blockchain and are ideal for larger amounts. Minimum deposit varies by broker but typically starts at €100 or equivalent in USD.
Step 4: Connect TradingView to Your Broker
Log into TradingView (free or paid plan). At the bottom of the screen, click the 'Trading Panel' icon (looks like a chart with a dollar sign). Select your broker from the list – if not listed, use the broker's API or cTrader integration. Follow the on-screen authorisation steps. Once connected, you can place trades directly from TradingView charts, set stop-losses, and monitor positions in real time.
Step 5: Customise Your Charts and Start Trading
Use TradingView's layout tools to set up multiple chart windows for different forex pairs. Add indicators like Moving Averages, RSI, or MACD. Save your layout as a template for future sessions. For Maltese traders, focus on EUR/USD during the European session (9:00-17:00 CET) for highest liquidity. Use the 'Alerts' feature to get notifications on your phone or email when price hits your target.
