How to Use TradingView for Forex
What is TradingView and Why Use It for Forex?
TradingView is a cloud-based charting platform used by millions of traders worldwide. It offers real-time forex data, hundreds of technical indicators, and a social community where you can share ideas. For Kiribati traders, it's especially useful because it works on any device — desktop, tablet, or smartphone — and doesn't require a powerful computer.
Step 1: Create a TradingView Account
Go to tradingview.com and sign up using your email, Google, or Apple account. Choose a username and password. You don't need to provide a Kiribati address or phone number at this stage. The free plan gives you access to basic charts and one indicator per chart.
Step 2: Understand the TradingView Interface
The main screen shows a price chart by default. On the left, you'll find drawing tools. At the top, there are timeframes (1m, 5m, 1h, 1D, etc.). The bottom panel has watchlists and the right panel shows your alerts and positions. Take 10 minutes to explore each section.
Step 3: Add Forex Pairs to Your Watchlist
Click the 'Watchlist' button on the left sidebar and search for currency pairs like EUR/USD, GBP/JPY, or AUD/USD. Add them by clicking the star icon. For Kiribati traders, pairs involving USD are most relevant since the Kiribati dollar is pegged to the US dollar.
Step 4: Apply Technical Indicators
Click the 'Indicators' button at the top and search for popular tools like Moving Averages, RSI, MACD, or Bollinger Bands. Drag and drop them onto your chart. You can adjust settings by clicking the gear icon next to the indicator name.
Step 5: Set Up Alerts
Right-click on the chart and select 'Add Alert'. Choose a price level, indicator condition, or time condition. Alerts can be sent to your email or mobile push notification. This is helpful for Kiribati traders who may not be able to watch charts all day due to time zone differences.
Step 6: Connect TradingView to a Broker
To trade directly from TradingView, you need a broker that supports TradingView integration. Popular brokers for Kiribati include OANDA, FXTM, and IC Markets. After opening an account, go to TradingView's 'Trade' panel, select your broker, and enter your API key or login credentials. You can then place trades directly from the chart.
