How to Install Expert Advisor on MT4
What is an Expert Advisor (EA)?
An Expert Advisor is an automated trading robot that runs on MT4. It executes trades based on pre-programmed rules without manual intervention. For Trinidad and Tobago traders, EAs can help you trade while you work or sleep. However, you must choose a reliable EA and a reputable broker.
Step 1: Choose a Regulated Broker
Before installing any EA, open a live or demo MT4 account with a broker that accepts Trinidad and Tobago residents. Look for brokers regulated by the local financial authority or top-tier bodies like FCA, CySEC, or ASIC. Ensure the broker supports Bank Transfer, Skrill, and USDT deposits. For example, many brokers offer Islamic accounts for local traders.
Step 2: Download the EA File
Purchase or download the EA from a trusted developer. Common file formats are .ex4 (compiled) or .mq4 (source code). Save the file to your computer. Never download EAs from unverified websites — many contain malware. Check reviews on Trinidad and Tobago trading communities.
Step 3: Locate the MT4 Data Folder
Open MT4. Go to File > Open Data Folder. This opens the MT4 directory. Navigate to MQL4 > Experts. This is where all EA files are stored. If you cannot find the folder, create it manually.
Step 4: Copy the EA File
Copy the .ex4 or .mq4 file you downloaded and paste it into the MQL4 > Experts folder. Do not place it in subfolders unless specified by the developer.
Step 5: Restart MT4
Close MT4 completely and reopen it. The EA should now appear in the Navigator panel under Expert Advisors. If not, right-click on Navigator and select Refresh.
Step 6: Attach the EA to a Chart
Drag the EA from Navigator onto a chart. A settings window will appear. Set your risk parameters (e.g., lot size, stop loss). On the Common tab, check 'Allow Automated Trading' and 'Allow DLL Imports' if needed. Click OK.
Step 7: Enable Automated Trading
On the MT4 toolbar, click the AutoTrading button (green triangle). It must be lit green. If it is red, click it. Also go to Tools > Options > Expert Advisors and ensure 'Allow Automated Trading' is checked.
