How to Install Expert Advisor on MT4
What is an Expert Advisor (EA)?
An Expert Advisor is a software program that runs on the MT4 platform to automatically execute trades based on predefined rules. For Nepal traders, EAs can help overcome time zone differences and emotional trading decisions. EAs are written in MQL4 and can be downloaded from marketplaces like MQL5 or custom-coded.
Step 1: Choose a Broker That Supports EAs
Not all brokers allow EA trading. For Nepal traders, select a broker regulated by Nepal's local financial authority that offers MT4, low latency, and no restrictions on automated trading. Ensure the broker accepts Bank Transfer, Skrill, and USDT deposits for easy funding.
Step 2: Download the EA File
Download the EA file (usually .ex4 or .ex5) from a trusted source. For Nepal traders, be cautious of free EAs from unknown websites as they may contain malware. Prefer EAs from MQL5 marketplace or your broker's recommended list.
Step 3: Install the EA on MT4
Copy the EA file to the 'Experts' folder in your MT4 installation directory (usually C:\Program Files\MetaTrader 4\MQL4\Experts). Restart MT4, then drag the EA from the Navigator panel onto a chart. Configure settings like lot size, risk percentage, and time frame.
Step 4: Enable Automated Trading
In MT4, go to Tools > Options > Expert Advisors and tick 'Allow Automated Trading'. Also, ensure the EA icon shows a smiley face on the chart. For Nepal traders, consider using a VPS to keep the EA running 24/7.
Step 5: Test the EA on a Demo Account
Before live trading, test the EA on a demo account for at least 2-4 weeks. This helps Nepal traders evaluate performance under local market conditions (e.g., Asian session volatility). Use the Strategy Tester in MT4 for backtesting.
