How to Install Expert Advisor on MT4
Step 1: Prepare Your MT4 Platform
Before installing an Expert Advisor, ensure you have MT4 installed on your Windows PC or Mac (using Wine). Montenegro traders should download MT4 from their broker’s website—choose a broker regulated by the local financial authority. Open MT4 and log in with your demo or live account. For live trading, fund your account via Bank Transfer, Skrill, or USDT.
Step 2: Obtain the Expert Advisor File
Expert Advisors come in two formats: .ex4 (compiled) and .mq4 (source code). For safety, only use EAs from reputable developers or marketplaces. Avoid free EAs from unknown forums—scams are common. If you purchase an EA, pay via Skrill or USDT for buyer protection. Store the file in a folder you can easily access.
Step 3: Install the EA in MT4
Open MT4 and click File > Open Data Folder. Navigate to the 'MQL4' folder, then 'Experts'. Copy your EA file into this folder. Restart MT4 or right-click the Navigator panel and select 'Refresh'. The EA will appear under 'Expert Advisors' in the Navigator. Drag it onto any chart—a smiley face icon should appear, confirming installation.
Step 4: Enable Automated Trading
On the chart, click the 'AutoTrading' button (green triangle) to enable EA trading. In the EA properties, set parameters like lot size, risk percentage, and stop-loss. Check the 'Allow live trading' box under 'Common' tab. For Montenegro traders, use USD as the base currency to avoid conversion fees.
Step 5: Test the EA on a Demo Account
Always test the EA on a demo account for at least two weeks. Use the Strategy Tester (View > Strategy Tester) with historical data. Evaluate performance under local spreads and slippage. Only switch to a live account after satisfactory results. Fund your live account with Bank Transfer or Skrill—USDT is faster but check broker policies.
