How to Install Expert Advisor on MT4
What is an Expert Advisor and Why Use It?
An Expert Advisor is a software program that runs on MT4 to automatically execute trades based on predefined rules. Monaco traders use EAs to remove emotional decision-making and to trade 24/7 without manual intervention. For example, an EA can automatically buy EUR/USD when the RSI drops below 30 and sell when it exceeds 70.
Step 1: Choose a Broker That Supports EA Trading
Not all brokers allow automated trading. In Monaco, select a broker regulated by the local financial authority or reputable bodies like FCA or CySEC. Ensure the broker offers MT4, accepts deposits via Bank Transfer, Skrill, or USDT, and allows algorithmic trading. Some brokers require you to enable automated trading in your account settings.
Step 2: Download Your Expert Advisor
Obtain your EA file (usually a .ex4 or .mq4 file) from a trusted source. Avoid free EAs from unknown websites – many contain malware. For Monaco traders, consider testing a demo account first using Skrill-funded demo credits to see if the EA behaves as expected.
Step 3: Install the EA on MT4
Open MT4 and go to 'File' > 'Open Data Folder'. Navigate to the 'MQL4' folder, then 'Experts'. Copy and paste your EA file here. Restart MT4 or right-click on 'Expert Advisors' in the Navigator panel and select 'Refresh'. Your EA should now appear in the list.
Step 4: Configure and Enable the EA
Drag the EA onto your chosen chart. In the 'Common' tab, check 'Allow Automated Trading'. Set input parameters like lot size or stop loss. For Monaco traders, ensure your account currency (USD) matches the EA’s base currency to avoid conversion errors. Click OK to attach the EA.
Step 5: Test on a Demo Account First
Before going live, run the EA on a demo account for at least two weeks. This helps you verify performance and adjust settings. You can open a demo account with any broker that accepts Monaco residents and uses USD as base currency.
