How to Install Expert Advisor on MT4
What is an Expert Advisor?
An Expert Advisor is a software program that runs on MT4 to automatically execute trades based on predefined rules. For Gambia traders, EAs can help manage trades while you are offline, but they require careful setup. Always test EAs on a demo account first.
Step 1: Download the EA File
Obtain the EA file (usually a .ex4 or .mq4 file) from a trusted source. Avoid free EAs from unknown websites, as they may contain malware. In Gambia, many traders buy EAs from international developers using USDT or Skrill.
Step 2: Locate the MT4 Data Folder
Open MT4, click 'File' in the top menu, then select 'Open Data Folder'. This opens the directory where MT4 stores files. Navigate to the 'MQL4' folder, then 'Experts'. This is where you will paste the EA file.
Step 3: Install the EA File
Copy the EA file (e.g., MyEA.ex4) and paste it into the 'Experts' folder. If the file has a .mq4 extension, it is source code and must be compiled first. Use the MetaEditor tool in MT4 to compile it.
Step 4: Restart MT4 and Attach the EA
Close and reopen MT4. In the Navigator panel (Ctrl+N), find your EA under 'Expert Advisors'. Drag it onto a chart. A settings window will appear—configure parameters like lot size, stop loss, and take profit. Ensure 'Allow Automated Trading' is checked in the 'Common' tab.
Step 5: Enable Automated Trading
Click the 'AutoTrading' button at the top of MT4 (it should turn green). If it is grey, click it to enable. Your EA will now run on the chart. Monitor it closely for the first few hours to ensure it works as expected.
