How to Install Expert Advisor on MT4
Step 1: Download the Expert Advisor File
First, obtain the EA file from a trusted source. Most EAs come as .ex4 (compiled) or .mq4 (source code) files. For Cape Verde traders, ensure the EA is compatible with USD accounts, as your trading account will likely be denominated in USD. Avoid downloading from unverified forums to prevent malware.
Step 2: Locate the MT4 Data Folder
Open MT4 on your computer. Click on 'File' in the top menu, then select 'Open Data Folder'. This opens the directory where MT4 stores all its files. For Cape Verde users, this is typically in the AppData folder on Windows or the Application Support folder on macOS.
Step 3: Place the EA in the Experts Folder
In the data folder, navigate to 'MQL4' and then 'Experts'. Copy your EA file (both .ex4 and .mq4 if available) into this folder. If you are using a custom indicator required by the EA, also place it in the 'Indicators' folder. Restart MT4 to load the new files.
Step 4: Enable Automated Trading in MT4
Go to 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Expert Advisors' tab. Check the box 'Allow Automated Trading' and also 'Allow DLL imports' if the EA requires it. For Cape Verde traders, ensure your broker supports automated trading, as some brokers restrict EAs during news events.
Step 5: Attach the EA to a Chart
Drag the EA from the Navigator panel (under 'Expert Advisors') onto a chart. A settings window will appear. Configure parameters like lot size, risk percentage, and take profit/stop loss levels. For USD-denominated accounts, set the base currency to USD. Click 'OK' to attach the EA.
Step 6: Monitor the EA
Once attached, the EA will start trading automatically. Monitor its performance regularly, especially during the first week. Cape Verde traders should use a demo account first to test the EA with virtual funds. Also, consider using a VPS to ensure the EA runs 24/7 without interruption.
