How to Do Technical Analysis in Forex
What is Technical Analysis?
Technical analysis involves analyzing price charts, volume, and market sentiment to make trading decisions. Unlike fundamental analysis, which looks at economic data, technical analysis focuses on price action. For example, if the USD/KZT chart shows a clear uptrend with higher highs and higher lows, a technical trader would look to buy.
Key Tools for Kazakhstan Traders
Start with basic tools: trendlines, support/resistance, moving averages (50 and 200), RSI, and MACD. These work on all time frames. For USD/KZT, pay attention to key psychological levels like 450, 460, 470 tenge per dollar, as these often act as support or resistance.
Candlestick Patterns
Learn common patterns: doji, hammer, engulfing, and morning/evening star. For example, if you see a bullish engulfing pattern on the H4 chart of USD/KZT near a support level, it may signal a buying opportunity. Practice identifying these on historical charts first.
Chart Time Frames
Kazakhstan traders should align time frames with trading sessions. The Asian session (03:00-12:00 Almaty time) is less volatile, while the London session (15:00-00:00) offers more movement. Use M15 for scalping, H1 for day trading, and H4/D1 for swing trading.
Risk Management
Always set stop-loss orders. For example, if you buy USD/KZT at 460, place a stop-loss at 458 (50 pips risk). Never risk more than 1-2% of your account per trade. This is crucial because the KZT can be volatile due to oil price changes.
