How to Do Fundamental Analysis in Forex
What is Fundamental Analysis in Forex?
Fundamental analysis is a method of forecasting currency price movements by examining economic indicators, central bank policies, and geopolitical events. Unlike technical analysis which focuses on price charts, fundamental analysis looks at the underlying health of an economy. For Rwanda traders, this means understanding both local factors (RWF) and global factors (USD, EUR, GBP) that affect the pairs you trade.
Key Economic Indicators for Rwanda Traders
Focus on these indicators: Interest rates from the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR) – higher rates attract foreign capital, strengthening RWF. Inflation (CPI) – rising inflation may lead to rate hikes. GDP growth – strong growth supports currency. Trade balance – Rwanda exports coffee, tea, and minerals; a surplus strengthens RWF. Employment data – low unemployment indicates economic strength. For major pairs, follow US Non-Farm Payrolls, Fed rate decisions, Eurozone CPI, and UK employment data.
How to Use an Economic Calendar
An economic calendar lists upcoming data releases with expected and previous values. Rwanda traders should bookmark ForexFactory or Investing.com. Set alerts for high-impact events like BNR rate decisions (usually quarterly) and US jobs data (first Friday of each month). Compare actual vs. expected figures – a surprise often causes sharp price movements. For example, if US CPI comes in higher than expected, USD may strengthen against RWF.
Applying Fundamental Analysis to Your Trades
Step 1: Check the economic calendar for the week. Step 2: Identify high-impact events for your traded pairs. Step 3: Analyze expectations – if the market expects a rate hike, the currency may already be priced in. Step 4: Wait for the news release – avoid trading 5 minutes before. Step 5: After release, look for confirmation from price action before entering a trade. For Rwanda traders, also monitor local news like coffee export data or foreign aid announcements.
