How to Choose a Forex Broker
Step 1: Verify Broker Regulation and Reputation
Before depositing any money, confirm that the broker is regulated by a reputable authority such as CySEC, FCA, or ASIC. While Armenia's local financial authority is developing, most international brokers are not locally regulated. Avoid unregulated brokers or those with a history of client complaints. Check forums like Forex Peace Army and Trustpilot for reviews from Armenian traders.
Step 2: Check Payment Methods for Armenia
Ensure the broker supports Bank Transfer (preferably in USD or AMD), Skrill, and USDT (Tether). USDT deposits via TRC20 are especially popular in Armenia because they are fast and low-cost. Some brokers also accept Visa/Mastercard, but these may have lower limits for Armenian banks. Always verify withdrawal policies, fees, and processing times for each method.
Step 3: Evaluate Trading Costs and Spreads
Compare spreads, commissions, and overnight swap fees (especially if you hold positions long-term). For Armenian traders, a broker with tight spreads on major pairs like EUR/USD and GBP/USD is ideal. Also check if the broker offers Islamic accounts (swap-free) if required, though most Armenian traders do not need this.
Step 4: Test the Trading Platform
Most brokers offer MetaTrader 4 (MT4) or MetaTrader 5 (MT5). Ensure the platform is available on desktop, web, and mobile (iOS/Android). Test the demo account for at least a week to assess execution speed, charting tools, and order types. Some brokers also offer cTrader or TradingView, which are excellent for advanced analysis.
Step 5: Review Customer Support and Account Types
Choose a broker with responsive customer support in English or Russian (many Armenian traders speak Russian). Check if they offer a standard account (no commission) or a raw spread account (low spread + commission). Also confirm the minimum deposit – some brokers accept as low as $10, but $100-$500 is common for serious trading.
