How to Calculate Pip Value
What is a Pip?
A pip is the fourth decimal place in most currency pairs (0.0001). For pairs involving the Japanese Yen, it is the second decimal (0.01). For South Sudan traders, understanding pips is the foundation of risk management.
Pip Value Formula for USD Accounts
Since most South Sudan traders open accounts in USD, the formula is: Pip Value = (One Pip / Exchange Rate) × Lot Size. For EUR/USD at 1.1000: (0.0001 / 1.1000) × 100,000 = $9.09 per pip. For mini lots (10,000 units): $0.909. For micro lots (1,000 units): $0.0909.
Example for South Sudan Traders
Suppose you deposit $500 via USDT and trade EUR/USD with 0.05 lots (5,000 units). Pip value = (0.0001 / 1.1000) × 5,000 = $0.4545 per pip. If price moves 50 pips in your favor, profit = 50 × $0.4545 = $22.73. This shows how pip calculation helps set realistic targets.
Using Pip Calculators
Most brokers offer free pip calculators. For South Sudan traders, these tools account for your account currency (USD) and lot size. Input the pair, lot size, and current exchange rate to get instant pip value. This avoids manual errors and improves trading accuracy.
