How to Calculate Pip Value
What Is a Pip in Forex?
A pip (percentage in point) is the fourth decimal place in most currency pairs (e.g., 0.0001). For pairs involving the Japanese Yen, a pip is the second decimal place (e.g., 0.01). For Pakistan traders, understanding pips is the first step to calculating profit or loss in PKR.
Pip Value Formula
The standard formula is: Pip Value = (One Pip / Exchange Rate) * Lot Size. For a standard lot (100,000 units) of EUR/USD at 1.1000, one pip = 0.0001 / 1.1000 * 100,000 = $9.09. If your account is in PKR, convert this to PKR using the current USD/PKR rate (e.g., 280 PKR per USD). So, pip value = $9.09 * 280 = 2,545 PKR.
Example for Pakistan Traders
Suppose you trade GBP/USD with a mini lot (10,000 units) at 1.2500. Pip value = 0.0001 / 1.2500 * 10,000 = $0.80. In PKR: $0.80 * 280 = 224 PKR. If the price moves 20 pips in your favor, you earn 20 * 224 = 4,480 PKR. This calculation helps you set appropriate stop-losses based on your risk tolerance.
Pip Value for Different Lot Sizes
Standard lot (100,000): ~2,545 PKR per pip. Mini lot (10,000): ~254 PKR per pip. Micro lot (1,000): ~25 PKR per pip. Nano lot (100): ~2.5 PKR per pip. Pakistan traders should start with micro or mini lots to limit risk, especially when using high leverage (1:500) common with brokers accepting USDT TRC20 deposits.
Using Pip Value in Risk Management
Once you know pip value in PKR, calculate your position size. For example, if your account balance is 100,000 PKR and you risk 2% per trade (2,000 PKR), and your stop-loss is 20 pips, then pip value should be 2,000 / 20 = 100 PKR per pip. This corresponds to a mini lot (0.10 lot) on EUR/USD.
