How to Calculate Pip Value
What is a Pip?
A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest price change in a currency pair. For most major pairs like EUR/USD, GBP/USD, one pip equals 0.0001. For pairs involving the Japanese Yen, one pip equals 0.01. Understanding this is crucial for Myanmar traders because profit and loss are measured in pips.
The Basic Formula
Pip Value = (One Pip / Exchange Rate) × Lot Size. For example, if you trade EUR/USD at 1.1000 with a standard lot (100,000 units), pip value = (0.0001 / 1.1000) × 100,000 = $9.09. If the trade moves 10 pips in your favor, you gain $90.90.
Example for Myanmar Traders
Suppose you deposit $500 via Skrill and trade USD/JPY at 110.00 with a mini lot (10,000 units). One pip for USD/JPY is 0.01, so pip value = (0.01 / 110.00) × 10,000 = ¥0.909, but since your account is in USD, you convert: $0.909 / 110.00 = $0.0083 per pip. This small value means you need larger lot sizes to see meaningful profits, but also increases risk.
Using a Pip Calculator
Most brokers offer free pip calculators on their platforms. For Myanmar traders, it's wise to cross-check manually. Always set your account currency to USD (most brokers default to this). Remember that pip value changes with exchange rate fluctuations, so recalculate before each trade, especially when using volatile instruments like USDT deposits.
