How to Calculate Pip Value
What is a Pip?
A pip is the smallest price change in a currency pair, usually 0.0001 for most major pairs (e.g., EUR/USD, GBP/USD) and 0.01 for JPY pairs (e.g., USD/JPY). For Marshall Islands traders using USD accounts, pip value is directly in US dollars for pairs where USD is the quote currency.
Pip Value Formula
The basic formula is: Pip Value = (One Pip / Exchange Rate) * Lot Size. For example, if you trade EUR/USD at 1.1000 with a standard lot (100,000 units), one pip = 0.0001, so pip value = (0.0001 / 1.1000) * 100,000 = $9.09. For USD/JPY at 110.00, one pip = 0.01, so pip value = (0.01 / 110.00) * 100,000 = $9.09.
Lot Sizes and Pip Value
Standard lot (100,000 units): $10 per pip for USD pairs. Mini lot (10,000 units): $1 per pip. Micro lot (1,000 units): $0.10 per pip. Nano lot (100 units): $0.01 per pip. Marshall Islands traders often start with micro or mini lots to limit risk, especially when depositing via Bank Transfer or Skrill.
Practical Example for Marshall Islands
Suppose you deposit $500 via USDT into your broker account and trade EUR/USD with a micro lot (1,000 units). If the price moves 50 pips in your favor, your profit = 50 * $0.10 = $5. If you use a standard lot, the same 50-pip move equals $500 profit or loss, which could wipe out your account. Always calculate pip value before entering a trade to set proper stop-loss levels.
