How to Calculate Pip Value
What is a Pip in Forex?
A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest price movement in most currency pairs. For most pairs like EUR/USD, 1 pip = 0.0001. For JPY pairs like USD/JPY, 1 pip = 0.01. Jordan traders must understand this because your profit or loss depends on pip movements.
Pip Value Formula for Jordan Traders
The basic formula is: Pip Value = (1 pip / Exchange Rate) × Lot Size. Since your account is in USD, for pairs where USD is the quote currency (e.g., EUR/USD, GBP/USD), pip value is fixed: 0.0001 × 100,000 = 10 USD per standard lot. For pairs where USD is the base currency (e.g., USD/JPY, USD/CAD), you must divide by the exchange rate.
Example: EUR/USD for Jordan Traders
Imagine you deposit 1,000 USD via Skrill. You buy 0.1 lots (10,000 units) of EUR/USD at 1.1000. Pip value = 0.0001 × 10,000 = 1 USD per pip. If the price moves 50 pips in your favor, you gain 50 USD. This simple calculation helps you set stop-losses appropriately.
Example: USD/JPY for Jordan Traders
You deposit 5,000 USD via Bank Transfer. You buy 1 standard lot (100,000 units) of USD/JPY at 110.00. Pip value = 0.01 × 100,000 / 110.00 = 9.09 USD per pip. A 20-pip move equals 181.80 USD. Always recalculate when the exchange rate changes.
Using USDT for Pip Value Calculations
Many Jordan traders fund accounts with USDT (Tether) because it's pegged to USD. Pip value calculations remain the same since your account base currency is USD. However, ensure your broker converts USDT to USD at fair rates. Always verify pip values in your trading platform's 'Specifications' tab.
Impact of Leverage on Pip Value
Leverage does not change pip value, but it affects the margin required. For example, 1:100 leverage on a standard lot requires 1,000 USD margin. Jordan traders should use lower leverage (e.g., 1:30 or 1:50) as recommended by the local financial authority to avoid large losses.
