How to Calculate Pip Value
What is a Pip?
A pip is typically 0.0001 for most currency pairs (e.g., EUR/USD) and 0.01 for pairs involving the Japanese Yen (e.g., USD/JPY). For Guinea-Bissau traders trading with USD accounts, understanding this is critical because each pip movement directly impacts your account balance.
Pip Value Formula
The standard formula is: Pip Value = (One Pip / Exchange Rate) × Trade Size. For example, if you trade 1 standard lot (100,000 units) of EUR/USD at an exchange rate of 1.1000, the pip value is (0.0001 / 1.1000) × 100,000 = $9.09. In practice, most brokers round this to $10 per pip for standard lots.
Example for Guinea-Bissau Traders
Suppose you deposit $500 via Skrill and trade 0.1 lots (10,000 units) of GBP/USD at 1.3000. The pip value is (0.0001 / 1.3000) × 10,000 = $0.77. If the price moves 50 pips in your favor, you make $38.50. Always use a pip calculator on your broker’s platform to avoid manual errors.
Why USD Matters
Since your account is in USD, pip values are automatically calculated in USD. If your account were in a different currency, you’d need to convert. For Guinea-Bissau traders, setting the account base currency to USD simplifies everything and avoids extra conversion fees from Bank Transfer or USDT deposits.
