How to Calculate Pip Value
What is a Pip?
A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest price move in forex, typically 0.0001 for most pairs. For USD/JPY, it's 0.01. For Dominican Republic traders, understanding this is the first step in calculating pip value.
The Universal Formula
Pip Value = (One Pip / Exchange Rate) × Lot Size. For a standard lot (100,000 units) in EUR/USD at 1.1000: (0.0001 / 1.1000) × 100,000 = $9.09. For USD/JPY at 110.00: (0.01 / 110.00) × 100,000 = $9.09.
Account Currency Matters
Since most Dominican Republic traders use USD accounts, pip values are already in USD. If your account is in DOP (Dominican Peso), convert the result using the current USD/DOP rate (e.g., 1 USD = 58 DOP). A $10 pip becomes 580 DOP.
Lot Size Examples
Micro lot (1,000 units): $0.10 per pip. Mini lot (10,000 units): $1 per pip. Standard lot (100,000 units): $10 per pip. For Dominican Republic traders, starting with micro lots is recommended to limit risk while learning.
Using a Pip Calculator
Most brokers offering Bank Transfer, Skrill, or USDT deposits provide a pip calculator in their platform. Always verify your calculations manually at first to ensure accuracy.
