How to Calculate Lot Size in Forex
What is Lot Size in Forex?
Lot size represents the number of currency units you trade. Standard lots (100,000 units), mini lots (10,000 units), micro lots (1,000 units), and nano lots (100 units) are common. For Mongolia traders with smaller accounts, micro and mini lots are ideal.
Why Lot Size Matters for Mongolia Traders
Mongolia traders face unique challenges: MNT volatility, limited local broker options, and the need to convert funds via Bank Transfer, Skrill, or USDT. Incorrect lot size can lead to margin calls or blown accounts. Using a risk-based formula ensures your trades align with your account size and risk tolerance.
The Lot Size Formula
Lot Size = (Account Balance × Risk Percentage) / (Stop Loss in Pips × Pip Value). Example: A Mongolia trader with a 2,000 USD account, risking 2% (40 USD), a 30-pip stop loss, and a pip value of 0.1 USD for a mini lot: Lot Size = 40 / (30 × 0.1) = 13.33 mini lots (0.1333 standard lots). Always round down to avoid overexposure.
Pip Value Calculation for USD Accounts
For USD-denominated accounts, pip value is fixed: 10 USD for a standard lot, 1 USD for a mini lot, 0.1 USD for a micro lot. Mongolia traders should confirm this with their broker, especially when using USDT deposits.
