How to Avoid Forex Scams
1. Verify Broker Regulation
Always check if the broker is regulated by a reputable authority such as CySEC, FCA, or ASIC. In Armenia, there is no dedicated local financial authority overseeing retail forex brokers, so you must rely on international regulators. Visit the regulator's website and confirm the broker's license number. Be wary of brokers that claim to be 'registered' but not regulated.
2. Avoid Unrealistic Promises
Scammers often promise guaranteed returns, high profits with no risk, or 'secret strategies.' In Armenia, these offers frequently appear on social media, Telegram channels, or through local influencers. Legitimate forex trading involves risk, and no one can guarantee consistent profits. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
3. Check Withdrawal Policies
Before depositing, read the broker's withdrawal terms. Scam brokers often have hidden fees, long processing times, or minimum withdrawal amounts that make it difficult to get your money back. Search for reviews from other Armenian traders to see if withdrawals are processed smoothly. Test the process with a small deposit first.
4. Use Safe Payment Methods
In Armenia, stick to trusted payment methods like Bank Transfer (for larger amounts), Skrill (fast and secure), or USDT (cryptocurrency stablecoin, low fees). Avoid brokers that only accept cash, cryptocurrency without a stablecoin, or wire transfers to personal accounts. These are red flags for scams.
5. Research the Broker's Reputation
Search for the broker's name along with keywords like 'scam' or 'review' in Armenian or English. Check forums, social media groups, and websites like Trustpilot. Ask in local trading communities for recommendations. A broker with consistent negative reviews or unresolved complaints should be avoided.
